Sociologists talk about “third places”—the cafés, parks, and shops between home and work where people simply exist near one another.

In many Indian cities, those places still thrive. But walking into one alone can feel strangely heavy. Who do you sit with? What do you do with your hands?

Companionship can make ordinary places feel open again. Not as entertainment. As ritual: showing up, sitting down, talking about nothing urgent.
